Bespoke Moss Green Women’s Custom Suit for an LGBTQ Wedding

Fresh Off the Tailor’s Bench: Moss Green Bespoke Women’s Suit for an LGBTQ Wedding in Los Angeles

Every so often, a commission arrives that reminds us why tailoring remains both an art and a form of storytelling. This project — a moss green three-piece suit for an LGBTQ wedding here in Los Angeles — was one of those pieces that seemed to capture everything we love about bespoke: the individuality, the detail, and the quiet precision that goes into making something truly personal.

The Fabric and Foundation

The suit is cut from a Super 110’s wool by Vitale Barberis Canonico Tier AA fabric, a mill in northern Italy that’s been weaving cloth since the 1600s. The weight and handle of this wool are ideal for the Los Angeles climate — breathable enough for a warm afternoon, structured enough to hold its shape well into the evening. The color, a deep moss green, carries a subtle sheen that shifts gently in different light, offering depth without flash. It’s a hue that feels grounded and quietly elegant — unexpected, but timeless.

Design and Cut

The brief was to create an androgynous cut with a feminine lean — structured but soft around the edges. We approached the jacket as a single-button shawl lapel style, favoring long, fluid lines over sharp angles. The hand pick-stitching along each seam adds texture and life to the surface, the kind of detail that reads only up close but makes all the difference in character.

Because the client has a naturally curvy shape, the pattern work became a careful balance of form and movement. Darting through the body allows the jacket to contour without tightening, shaping the waist and chest while keeping a clean line through the front. It’s always a conversation between geometry and comfort — especially important when the garment is meant to move through a full day of celebration.

Details and Construction

The jacket features a welt breast pocket and double-jetted lower pockets with flaps, a nod to classic British tailoring with a contemporary restraint. The mother-of-pearl buttons were chosen for their iridescent tone — they pick up the green of the cloth in some lights, and in others catch the warmth of the room.

The trousers are slim but not skinny, cropped just above the ankle for a clean, modern line. That proportion gives versatility — it reads smart with oxfords or loafers, but equally refined with a pair of heels. Inside, the waist and seat are shaped for ease rather than rigidity, following the natural form.

The waistcoat, the quiet heart of a three-piece, was kept close and minimal — high fastening, no lapel, trimmed neatly through the back. It adds structure when worn as a full ensemble, but can also stand alone with an open shirt in a more relaxed Los Angeles setting.

Tailoring for Expression

At its core, this commission was about comfort in identity — the kind that bespoke tailoring has always offered. Working with clients across the LGBTQ community in Los Angeles, we often see how clothing can affirm, align, and clarify who someone is, rather than disguise it. A suit like this isn’t about traditional gender lines; it’s about proportion, shape, and confidence.

A Los Angeles Approach to Bespoke

Los Angeles has its own rhythm when it comes to tailoring — less rigid, more intuitive. The city’s light, movement, and informality all find their way into the work. This suit reflects that blend: Italian cloth, English tradition, and Californian ease stitched together in one piece. It’s formal without stiffness, personal without excess.

Each “Fresh Off the Tailor’s Bench” project tells a story through cut and cloth. This one, in deep moss green, tells a story of love, presence, and the ongoing evolution of what a suit can be.
