The Wedding Garment Design Process
Getting the most out of your appointment
Pre-Appointment:
Please note: We require a minimum eight weeks’ lead time for all weddings and events to help minimize any time-related stress during the design and fitting process.
Wear shoes that are similar to the height and style of the shoes you intend to wear (if available)
The drape and break of a pant leg can be significantly influenced by the shoes you wear. A boot vs a loafer makes a huge difference. Brining a similar shoe helps to assure that we get it right.
Wear the under garments you plan to wear
Men: Undershirt, Underwear, Socks
Women: Bra, Panties, Hosiery/Leggings, Spanks
DO NOT come in Shorts, Skirts and Workout shoes (unless that’s what you plan to wear)
These Items make it hard for us to measure and understand how clothing drapes on your body.
Things to know in advance:
Do we want to design for the event or do we want a suit that has flexibility to be worn after the event?
Is there a weight loss or workout plan for the wedding?
If there is what is the goal?
What is the most important aspect or need from the garment?
For Weddings it usually boils down to: comfort, style or how it photographs.
If you know exactly what you want us to tailor just let us know, but we will be more than happy to sit down and walk you through the process and help you design the perfect look for your big day. Prior to your appointment its best to prepare by gathering together all the details we may need to help
Items that you may need:
Colors of the wedding
Colors of the wedding party
If possible, a picture of your Fiancé dress or suit
Theme of the wedding
Pictures of the venue
Reference pictures of the style of suit or tuxedo
What you should wear:
Bring a Suit or jacket and slacks (if available)
The hardest part of our job as a designer is quantifying the exact cut a client wants. Descriptive statements such as: I want something modern, or comfortable, or classic etc. can mean 20 different things to 20 different people. Wearing a suit to the appointment (even , and especially if, the suit you own does not fit well) gives us a starting point. It’s a tangible way to understand your likes and dislike, pet- peeves, and how tailored garments drape on your body.
The First Appointment:
We will sit down and discuss all the above details. Our main goal is to understand your vision and design a suit or tuxedo that best meets that vision. Some of our clients are very familiar with the bespoke custom tailoring process and require very little input from us. If you are new to bespoke do not worry, we will walk you through the entire process and make it as easy and simple as we can.
We understand the vision so that we can make suggestions on design
We will look through fabrics together. We will walk you through the different options and price tiers, give you the pros and cons, and all needed facts so that you can make a decision.
We will take measurements
We discuss the cut, the details
Initial appointments take about 1 hour to 1.5 hours. A 50% deposit is required for us to begin work
The Follow up Fittings and Delivery:
The first fitting is usually about 4-5 weeks later. This is where we try on your new bespoke suit to see how close or far we are from the perfect look and fit. We then chalk and pin as needed and make adjustments. The garment will be ready for a second fitting about a week later. In a small percent of fittings (roughly 5%) the fit isn’t correct due to our error or mis-judgement of posture and it can not be simply altered. If this is the case we will recut all or portions of the garment as needed. You do not incur any additional cost for this but it does take more time. Should this happen, a follow up fitting will be ready in 2-3 weeks. On average the majority of our clients require 2 fittings. Fitting appointments are usually 15-30 min.
Once we’ve given the new custom garment a thorough review and determine that it fits the vision and cut we discussed as closely as humanly possible, the suit is ready to be taken home. For about 30% percent of our clients this will happen on the first follow up fitting. For the rest it will be on subsequent fittings. The remaining 50% of the cost will be due at delivery.
