The Heart and Soul of a Well Made Suit
A custom tailored suit is about as old school as it gets and any true sartorial afficianado will tell you, the best old school suits are made using a full canvas interlining.
What is a full canvas suit and why is it important?
A full canvas suit is made using a canvas lining sewn inside the front of the jacket. The canvas is made of different materials and can be found in linen, horse hair, goat hair and cotton or blends of the four. This is what gives the jacket its shape, weight, form and drape.
A well made tailored jacket featuring a full canvas ‘ages’ differently than their cheaper counterparts. Most massed produced suits off the rack are made with fusing - a glued synthetic mesh- to give the jacket its drape. The problem is fusing shrinks at a different rate than wool and over time glue will eventually wear out. This gives the jacket a visibly puckered look, eventually as the glue wears down bubbles will form on the outside fabric which can not be ironed away.
A full canvas jacket is sewn using baste stitches - Hand made stitches with light tension. This allows the canvas to ‘float’ inside the jacket. Its how a great tailor can create the illusion of crisp lines while maintaining the wearability of their garments. An additional benefit: Canvas has memory. As you wear the suit, the canvas breaks in based on how your body moves. The result is a suit that moves the way you move.

Italian Full Canvas
Lightweight horsehair canvas gives our Italian style tailoring a sporty yet tailored apperance.
The Chest has no padding or shaping. This gives the jacket a soft drape.
The shoulders feature one layer of canvas and stacked cotton. This gives the jacket natural shoulder line.
The jacket is lightweight. Perfect for summer months
Best used in sportcoats, and suits that are meant to be dressed up or down.
